IQ: Rating Jimmy

Jimmy Carter exited the White House on a tidal wave of unpopularity that ushered in eight years of The Gipper. In the 20 years since, though, his legacy has aged well and his post-presidency work with Habitat for Humanity and the world's poor has made him arguably the most distinguished ex-president of the 20th Century. In other words, the onetime peanut farmer and his wife Rosalynn rock.

What does the name Jimmy Carter bring to mind? He was my dad's hero. He believed that anyone can and should make a difference.

What does the name George W. bring to mind? It makes me embarrassed to be a Texan, and I'm from Austin.

What was the best thing Carter did in office? He was pro-conservation.

What was the worse thing he did in office? His handling of the Iranian hostage situation.

Which is the wackier family -- the Carters or the Bushes? The Bushes. They're so dysfunctional and bizarre, and they got that way by birth more than by the old-fashioned way of earning it.

What does the name George W. Bush bring to mind? Texas -- in the bad sense of the term.

What was the best thing Carter did in office? He told the truth.

What was the worst thing he did in office? He told the truth.

Ever had a Billy Beer? Yeah. It sucked.

Which is the wackier family -- the Carters or the Bushes? I prefer the term "dull," and I'd say the Bushes win out.

What does the name Jimmy Carter bring to mind? Someone who is a much better ex-president than he was a president.

What does the name George W. Bush bring to mind? Conservative Christians. But I'm still willing to give him a chance.

What was the best thing Carter did in office? He was the last president who was genuinely ethical.

What was the worst thing he did in office? He didn't understand the needs of our military.

Which is the wackier family -- the Carters or the Bushes? Dad, Jeb, George W. -- you'd have to say the Bushes register a little higher on the wacko meter.

What does the name Jimmy Carter bring to mind? Georgia and peanuts.

What does the name George W. Bush bring to mind? Cocaine and Texas.

What was the best thing Carter did in office? I couldn't say. I admire his work for Habitat for Humanity, though.

Ever had a Billy Beer? No, but I'm desperately keeping my eye out for a six pack.

Which is the wackier family -- the Carters or the Bushes? In a loving way, I'd say the Carters. Billy was a great wacko. You have to go with the Carters.
