IQ: Right-brain respect

The salad days of your painting career may have come and gone in elementary school, but everyone has an artistic bone somewhere in their body. And that's all it takes to appreciate the films, statues, songs and other works created every day.

What's one art-related event you've been to in the last year? I've seen a few local bands in Manitou and bluegrass barbecues at America the Beautiful Park.

What's the crowning achievement of your fine arts career? I got honorable mention for a statue I made in a high school art show.

What do you think the fine arts scene in Colorado Springs needs most? More organization; more events; more advertising of those events. The events I go to, I don't see much advertising for them.

Would you want a song, portrait or sculpture made in your honor, and who would you want to create it? Probably a song by Ween.

How important do you think an art scene is to a city? Very important — the glue that holds us together.

Have you ever done any theater? In high school, I was in the play Footloose.

What's the crowning achievement of your art career? I color in a lot of coloring books during the downtime at work. I'm pleased with a few of them I've done. Other than that, I don't create art.

Would you ever want to be a muse for a painting, sculpture, or song, and for whom? I wouldn't mind a portrait from Frida Kahlo.

Do you think art relates to the economy? I think artwork reflects how an artist feels, so it depends on how political an artist is.

What's one art-related event you've been to in the last year? I went to a café that was showing artwork from my nephew's school. It was actually all pretty good.

What do you think the fine arts scene here needs most? I don't know, maybe they could spread it out instead of centering mostly on the west side.

Would you want a song, portrait or sculpture made in your honor? I'd want a sculpture of me put in the center of downtown.

How important do you think an art scene is to a city? I think it really depends on the city. I'd like to think Colorado Springs is more than just commerce. We could use all the art we can get, and I think we're doing a good job.
