Though reporting is on the rise — and more people are becoming familiar with the concept — sex addiction's still controversial. While science says a chemical hijack is to blame, some still see it as more of a moral failing.
What do you imagine being a sex addict looks like? I suppose these days, with pornography easily available on the Internet, that would be the most obvious route towards it.
What treatment would you recommend for a sex addict? Lots of cold showers ... just a load of cold showers.
How many overtly sexual messages do you think you encounter in the media in a day? I'd say quite a lot; visually, a lot. But I'm not sure that's changed a great deal. I think sex is always sold, has always been used to sell.
What do you imagine being a sex addict looks like? Something that you don't think you can live without, something that you can't go a day or shorter than that without even thinking about it.
What treatment would you recommend for a sex addict? I'm not a professional in that field, so I don't really know how to deal with that. I will say that I'm a born-again Christian and without Jesus Christ, trying to do some of these things on your own is next to impossible.
What do you think is to blame for the increase in people reporting sex addictions? Lack of morality in our culture as a whole. It's become too easy — there's no standards anymore. So anytime anything is easy to get, people get addicted to it a little bit quicker.
Do you think people can be addicted to sex the same as drugs or alcohol? I do believe that people can be addicted to sex. Everyone has their own different opinion, depending on their experiences. Our experiences define who we are, and they basically give us our explanations of things in how people react.
What treatment would you recommend for a sex addict? There is rehab, but that doesn't really work for a lot of people, just because they feel that they're being forced to do something.
