IQ: Welcome to election season

Welcome to election season, when candidates spend gobs of cash on commercials and glossy brochures extolling their successes. Isn't it great when we find out a little more about who they really are? And hey, what the heck is going on these days over at Colorado College?

How much of a candidate's history should be considered as a factor in elections? How they voted in the past is more important to me than whether they ever smoked pot. I don't really care about their personal lives, but I do care about what kind of stance they have taken politically.

The Republican Party underscores the need for personal responsibility. What is personal responsibility? Taking care of your own family privately, taking care of your work privately. Whether I have an abortion or not is really none of someone else's goddamn business.

Name your favorite scandal involving a public official. Silverado Savings and Loan. I just think it's hilarious that Bush's family is so well involved in helping little people. It was an excellent example of "the rich get richer."

With the recent sheep slaughter, two deaths on campus and the controversial appearance of Hanan Ashrawi, what the heck is going on over at Colorado College? I'm all for learning how to make a Mongolian sheep barbecue ... I wish I had been invited. I don't think there was any problem bringing [Ashrawi] in. I hope they bring in more very controversial people.

How much of a candidate's history should be considered in elections? All of it. If they are running for political office, they should have nothing to hide.

What is personal responsibility? Accepting responsibility for personal past, political position ... for everything. Truthfulness and integrity.

Name your favorite scandal involving a public official. Probably Monica Lewinsky. I thought it was appalling, disappointing -- it brought disgrace on our country in the highest office in the United States.

What the heck is going on over at Colorado College? I don't know anything about this. Sounds like we've got some security concerns.

How much of a candidate's history should be considered as a factor in elections? All of it. Everybody lies, everybody steals, everybody cheats, especially when you give them power.

What is personal responsibility? Taking care of yourself... your family. But everybody is just as guilty as the next guy. It's all who has the bigger smile.

What's your favorite political scandal? Monica Lewinsky. How many people really know about Whitewater or about the Iran- Contra hearings? Everybody knows about Monica.

What the heck is going on over at Colorado College? People need to respect other people's beliefs and customs no matter how trivial. It's America, you have the right to [kill a sheep].
