Dear Mayor Morrison:

Please be aware that several Manitou businesses are in violation of what I understand to be a municipal ordinance requiring they sell Native American ephemera and other Western art tchotchkes.

The following is an exchange I recently had with a Manitou Subway clerk regarding this issue:

KC: Where are your dream catchers?

Subway: Is that a 6- or a 12-inch, sir?

KC: How about a miniature ceramic coyote?

Subway: Would you like to try one of our new freshly baked specialty breads?

KC: My ailing mother NEEDS a vaguely authentic healing crystal!

Subway: Hot peppers?

KC: I don't think we're communicating.

Subway: Are you a Sub Club member?

Similar conversations were had at Conoco and Sinclair.

What is going on? Am I the only one who cares about the state of Manitou's tchotchke economy? Some clarification is in order.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Cleaver
