Colorado College art department chair Kate Leonard will be hosting a rather unorthodox closing reception and gallery talk for Dyr/Portal, a print and photography collaboration between Leonard and Icelandic artist and professor Valgerdur Hauksdottir at Coburn Gallery on the CC campus.
Brought together by a mutual interest in extreme landscapes, both artists created work in Iceland and Colorado that elucidates the myriad ways in which both landscapes "have lured settlers while simultaneously confronting them with formidable natural challenges."
Leonard's collage-like monotype prints frequently juxtapose natural and man-made patterns, structures and forms, whereas Hauksdottir's prints and photographs tend to look at the patterns in small, isolated objects or barren, all-but-uninhabitable landscapes.
