If you're hoping to get outside in the coming weeks, you may want to plan ahead for heavy traffic and closures.

The Manitou Incline will close Aug. 20 for repairs until some time in December.

Additionally, the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon will take place Aug. 20-21 in Manitou Springs. As a result, there will be no parking that weekend on Manitou or Ruxton avenues. Ruxton Avenue will be closed until 8 a.m. on Saturday and will have limited weekend access. The Manitou shuttle will not begin until 8 a.m. Saturday and will not run at all on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a giant water slide on 21st Street not only will cause road closures, but also will close the county's Bear Creek Dog Park on Aug. 20. The 2016 Slide the City event was permitted by Colorado Springs.

Also, the Pikes Peak Ranger District of the Pike-San Isabel National Forest is closing several trails in the Bear Creek Watershed due to falling rocks and debris below new trail construction. In mid to late August, FS Trail 720 (Foresters Cutoff) and FS Trail 668 (Pipeline) will close. FST 622 (Seven Bridges Trail) will be closed from Sept. 5-16. Additional closures may be implemented as needed.

  • Plan ahead for heavy traffic, road closures, and an Incline alternative.
