Mad about March 

The surest sign that winter is winding down is March Madness, otherwise known as the NCAA basketball tournament. College hoops fans know that March Madness best ushers us into April Fools', when we pack away our winter coats, giving way to hormones and skimpy T-shirts.

    What's so crazy about March Madness? It's 70 degrees one day and 30 the next, and college basketball fever comes to a boil.

    Who's going to make the Final Four this year? The University of Connecticut, and ... I have no idea who the other three will be.

    How about the women's Final Four? It'll be the U-Conn women ... and I have no idea who the other three will be there, either.

    Who is this year's Cinderella team -- the prohibitive underdog who will slay a Goliath or two before getting knocked off? I want to say Gonzaga, but they're pretty much a perennial power by now.

I watch the games only because they're on the - TV nonstop at our house.

    How about the women's Final Four? It looks like Stanford and Michigan State have good teams.

    If you had to put a hundred bucks on a Cinderella team, whom would you bet on? Gonzaga. They're a small school in a small conference and they don't play the big boys regularly. Also, my daughter goes to Whithworth College, just a couples miles down the road from Gonzaga in Spokane.

    Why does it matter who wins? It doesn't. It's just fun.
