Theres no end in sight to the war and occupation of Iraq, the deficit has escalated out of control and gas prices are sky-high and rising. Yet conservatives are fixated on same-sex marriage.

Theres no end in sight to the war and occupation of Iraq, the deficit has escalated out of control and gas prices are sky-high and rising. Yet conservatives are fixated on same-sex marriage. Does preservation of heterosexual marriage depend on a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage?

    Why should marriage be strictly heterosexual? It makes zero difference to me. People should marry whomever they want.

    Does same-sex marriage undermine heterosexual marriage? In what way, shape or form is a married straight person undermined by a gay person getting married?

    Do you know any gay couples? Several.

    What differences do you see between their relationships and heterosexual relationships? Straight or gay, every relationship is different.

    Does this issue merit a constitutional amendment? That's way overkill. The ability to make whatever you want out of yourself is what made America great, not laws limiting freedom and individuality.

    Does same-sex marriage threaten heterosexual marriage? I've never understood that claim. Any two people in love should be able to legally formalize their relationship.

    Do you know any same-sex couples? I even know a few married gay couples who have kids.

    Do their relationships essentially differ from heterosexuals? When partners love and respect each other, it's pretty much the same anywhere. From what I see, they provide all the love, support and emotional stability that goes with being good parents.

    Do we need a constitutional amendment? I'm far more interested in preserving our freedoms than in having the government tell us whom we can and can't marry.

    What's the essential issue regarding same-sex marriage? To me, it's an economic issue, not a moral issue. Gay or straight, all partners should have access to the rights, benefits and securities bestowed by marriage.

    Are you married? Yes.

    Is your marriage threatened by same-sex marriage? Why would it be? That's ludicrous.

    Do you know any gay couples? Oh, sure.

    What differences do you perceive between their relationships and heterosexual relationships? Straight or gay, anyone who lives together will have conflicts here and there.

    Do we need a constitutional amendment? The spirit of the Constitution has been to preserve our liberties and protect the minority from discrimination by the majority. This amendment would both narrow our freedoms and discriminate.
