Mission unaccomplished

With reports indicating that support for the war in Iraq is declining, the anti-war movement has gathered new fire, most notably right outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. There, Cindy Sheehan, whose soldier son, Casey, was killed in Iraq, has drawn hundreds of sympathizers to her side after President Bush refused to meet with her. (For more on Iraq, check out the cover story beginning on page 13.)

I just think it became politicized. The thing - is, her son died. It's unfortunate. We shouldn't have gone - in there in the first place. - - Polls are generally showing declining support for the - war. What do you make of the polls? There's 1,800 - people dead and thousands of people with their - appendages missing from blasts. So, yeah, support is - going to go down. - - Why are we in war in Iraq? The new Crusades. - We're the new Romans (laughs).

I think it is bullshit, and you - can quote me on that. He's not taking responsibility for - all the deaths. He's got no exit strategy. It's costing - millions of dollars every day to be over there. - - What is your opinion about opinion polls showing - waning support for the war? We should have never - gone there in the first place. It's against our Constitution - to do a pre-emptive invasion of another country. - - Why are we in Iraq, from your perspective? To - support Halliburton (laughs).

To be honest, if I was Bush - and one person came down to me and said, "I want a - meeting with you," I would be like, "Maybe later. I honestly don't - know anymore. I really don't. I think we're over there to - make a better country -- to stop the fighting, hopefully.
