Forget candy. Halloween is a time to rock.

Organized by Chris Forsythe, "Official Sound Guy" for The Black Sheep, the Halloween Monster Mosh is a holiday blend of guise, head-banging and drink specials.

According to Forsythe, who promises plenty of aggro-raging, tying Halloween to metal was easy to do. Since both involve a lot of black outerwear, goth-like makeup and a decent amount of partying, it wasn't a stretch.

"Metal is always good for Halloween. Try Redemption and Hell's Eden are pretty scary, anyway," he says, referring to two of the booked bands.

Though Monster Mosh will suffer a lack of candy corn and other goodie handouts, it will feature Colorado Springs' own heavies. Metal fans will hear Recondite's prog-metal (purevolume.com/_recondite_); Hell's Eden's gut-busting hesher anthems (hellseden.com); faster-than-fast guitar riffs from Malakai (malakaimetal.com); In Death We Rise's chugging metal (indeathw erise.com); and Try Redemption's Big Bad Wolf roarings (tryredemp tion.com). Visiting from Oakland, Calif., is Dopesick (dopesick.com), a quartet of hardcore boys who like a little punk rock in their metal.

Both audience and bands are "highly suggested" to attend in costume. Malakai, in which Forsythe rocks his socks off as the band's vocalist/screamer, plan to attend as a zombie foursome. Though one can hope for a Spinal Tap-like stage show, featuring glowing plastic pods for band members to burst from, Forsythe, unfortunately, is staying mum on the details.
