Thanks to the Internet, people have at their fingertips more information than they can ever sift through. But thanks to media company monopolies, the actual news we get is often either covered like a circus or sometimes -- when it's too messy -- conveniently ignored. For more, see this week's cover story on this year's top censored national stories, beginning on page 17.

What is the most underreported local issue? I would probably say the road situation. I live up at the Woodmen/I-25 area and it is just a disaster with the number of the wrecks and how long it is taking. Every time I go up to Denver, I'm amazed at the progress they make, but in Colorado Springs, it seems like everything takes so long in terms of the construction of our roadways.
Why do you think the media ignores certain stories?
Because they're not profitable for them. It all comes down to finance.
What do you think about the whole Kobe Bryant media circus? He's a celebrity; it's bound to happen. I don't know why his case gets any more attention than anyone else's, but that's what happens. It's unfortunate for the victim, it's unfortunate in terms of him getting a fair trial, and it's unfortunate for people who have it pushed in their faces whether they want to hear about it or not.

What are some national issues that are neglected in the media? The soldiers over in Iraq don't get all of the recognition that they need.
Why do you think the media doesn't report certain things? A lot of what goes on in the world is too gruesome; you can't show pictures or give in-depth details about that.

What is wrong with media coverage in the United States? Nationally and locally, everything is just scanned and brushed upon. Everybody would be a lot better off if reporters knew more about the undercurrents of the events that affect us all. It should be more in-depth. You got your news, weather and sports. Why are those the most important things? Maybe they could spend another 12 minutes on some more in-depth issues.
What is your opinion on the Kobe Bryant media circus? Well it is a media circus and if Schwarzenegger wins I think I'll just shoot myself.
