Not Your Mother's Appletini

For Appletini:

1 ½ oz. infused Lee Spirits Dry Gin

¾ oz. Schonauer Apfel Apple Schnapps

½-¾ oz. spiced syrup

¾ oz. cranberry juice

spiced sugar for rim

apple slice for garnish

For Spiced Syrup:

2 ½ c. water

2 c. sugar

¼ c. grated ginger

2 tbsp. raisins

1 4-inch cinnamon stick

For Spiced Sugar:

½ c. sugar

2 tsp. Chinese Five Spice

For Infused Gin:

1 bottle Lee Spirits Dry Gin

1 tsp. sugar

1 jalapeño

2 red Fresno peppers

1 3-inch cinnamon stick


For Appletini:

Shake top four ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass, rimmed with the spiced sugar. Garnish with an apple slice dusted with spiced sugar.

For Spiced Syrup:

Bring water and sugar just to a boil. Add all other ingredients and reduce to simmer. Simmer for 20 minutes then remove from heat. Let sit until cool. Strain into an empty bottle.

For Spiced Sugar:

Mix ingredients together in a small jar until thoroughly combined.

For Infused Gin:

Pour gin into a quart-size Mason jar with the sugar. Remove seeds from the peppers, quarter them, and add to the gin. Drop in cinnamon stick. Let all sit for 5 to 7 days, then strain back into bottle.


I don't usually do many spicy cocktails, as I am not a spicy kind of guy, and especially not in gin. I just never think about putting something spicy into such a delicate liquor. That being said, one of the good things about working at Brooklyn's on Boulder is that having only one spirit to serve challenges me to do things I wouldn't normally try. So, here is my attempt at a spicy style Appletini. Give it a go for yourself and then come to Brooklyn's and give mine a try.
