Best Of 2014: Breakfast

Best Of 2014: Biscuits and Gravy

Best Of 2014: Wait Staff

Amid the chatter of fellow hung-over Friday-nighters, my friend tries to persuade me to join him in concocting a build-your-own "Ultimate Bloody Mary" with organic tomato vodka. Meanwhile, the "super happy and friendly" wait staff, as termed by downtown managing partner Matthew Sharb, wanders by with plates of homemade biscuits and sage sausage gravy. Despite the temptations, I settle for the lighter side of Over Easy's menu with the organic breakfast quinoa, where heavenly bliss comes in the form of a protein-packed grain soaked in coconut-milk goodness and fresh fruit, drizzled with Colorado honey. Especially considering the local, organic ingredients and gluten-free and vegetarian options, this 2-year-old eatery clearly has all its bases covered. — Anna Palmer

Bites 2013: Fred's Hawaiian Pancakes

As cramp-your-glutes-sweet breakfast options go, this tropical tribute will spike your blood sugar just fine. Juicy pineapple cubes are caramelized, coconut flakes are lightly toasted, and then both are incorporated into the batter. Come plate-up time, cinnamon butter gets its melt on while a crème Anglaise drags a vanilla-laden drizzle across the flapjacks. Thankfully, no spam appears. ($7.99) Pad Thai Woon Sen at Arharn Thai
