Sgt. 1st Class Jackie Thompson helps with bags at Fort Carson before boarding a bus to the airport where he flew with 300 other soldiers from the 3rd Armored Cavalry to Bosnia on a six-month peacekeeping mission in 2001. Since January of this year, 5,300 Fort Carson soldiers have received deployment orders in anticipation of yet another mission -- war against Iraq. Fort Carson officials say that so far, only a few hundred have actually been deployed to Central Command, which covers the Middle East. Base officials would not say when the rest of the soldiers could be mobilized.
