A hit list of local dine-in or carry-out businesses

When it comes to pizza, the Springs offers plenty of locally owned dine-in, carry-out and delivery outfits. Here's a in-no-way comprehensive look at some favorite town spots:

For wood-oven pizzas, hit Il Vicino (ilvicino.com) downtown or Pizzeria Rustica (pizzeriarustica.com) in Old Colorado City. The first also sells its own beer, and the latter is as close to authentic Italy as you'll find locally.

For solid New York style pizza, visit any Borriello Brothers (borriellobrothers.com), Joey's Pizza (myspace.com/joeysnypizza) or centrally located Leon Gessi New York Pizza (leongessipizza.com). Downtown's more upscale answer to the Big Apple is Poor Richard's (poorrichards.biz), which sports whole wheat and spelt crust options and an array of gourmet ingredients.

Take the kids to Fargo's Pizza Co. (fargospizza.com) for a unique meal in a giant, Victorian-era-decorated space off Platte Avenue. On the opposite end of the spectrum, hit Roman Villa Pizza (635-1806) on North Nevada Avenue or Luigi's (luigiscoloradosprings.com) on South Nevada for an intimate pizza experience.

Bambino's Italian Eatery and Sports Bar (bambinospizza.com) is another longtime family operation off Platte. It rolls its own dough daily, much of it for a lunchtime buffet that's, quite simply, ridiculously good. Billy's Old World Pizza (630-3400) on Eighth Street throws a good pie as well, as do the five Louie's Pizza operations (louies-pizza.com) around town.

A locally-owed take-and-bake option is Mardano's (mardanos.com). And though it's a chain, Old Chicago (oldchicago.com) does offer one of the few Chicago-style, deep-dish pizzas in town, with more than 100 beers on tap.
