This weekend, the Greenway & Nature Center of Pueblo hosts the best showcase of regional bluegrass talent this side of Lyons -- Bluegrass on the River. In its thirteenth year, the music and Riverwalk festival attracts such acts as Pete & Joan Wernick, Hickory Project, High Plains Tradition and this year's headliner, Ryan Shupe & The RubberBand. Tagged as PostHeeHawFunkadelicHipHopNewgrass, Shupe & The RubberBand hail from Provo, Utah, but the majority of the bands performing the 33 hours of scheduled music call the Colorado high country home.
In line with the rugged, country nature of bluegrass, the Nature Center offers camping on their property along the banks of the Arkansas River. During the festival there will also be an Arts & Crafts fair, kids and nature activities, raptor programs, a caf and a traditional Saturday night dance. Tickets for adults range from $10 to $14 for a day pass, or $20 to $22 for the weekend. (Kids' tickets run from $3 to $5.50 for the weekend.) Camping is $25. Call 719/549-2414.
