Look, you play your rocks off for as long as Dan Barrett has, and you'll be good too. From learning his chops with relocated New Orleans old boys in Southern California, to playing with the last incarnation of the Benny Goodman Big Band to recording with Rosemary Clooney to becoming a darling of the jazz party circuit, Barrett has earned his rep.
The trombonist -- some say the one of the best living trombonists -- is an eloquent purveyor of traditional jazz and paired-down swing, curving his notes with the right kind of emotion and energy.
The Pikes Peak Jazz and Swing Society presents Dan Barrett and the Bruce Pennington Trio this Wednesday night at the Business of Art Center Community Building. Tickets are $15 for adults (with a discount for PPJASS members) and $5 for children and students; they can be purchased at KCME 88.7 FM, or by calling 632-8719.
