We Want a Forest With Isom Innis, Thieves and Villains, The Nightlife and Jon Stark The Element, 1626 S. Tejon St. Friday, May 18, 7 p.m. $5 at the door.

Jared Thomas, singer and guitarist for Christian screamo band We Want a Forest, is amazingly calm when he speaks of how the ideals of Christianity and the sound of screamo jive.

"We try to use our actual lives in our music," Thomas says. "We talk about what everybody goes through."

The band members met at New Life Church while going to school, and clicked from the starting line. They first played instruments together just three months ago, but they already have several concerts booked around the country. Every show promises a healthy batch of youthful energy and riff-induced hopping to go along with Thomas' screaming vocals, of course.

Members of WWAF don't just draw on their own lives for material. One of the most important parts of a concert is the interaction with fans afterward, Thomas says.

"Our music is our foot in the door," he says. "We are a Christian band, and love to talk to our fans."

Conversations could be about anything; that's the fun part of developing a following.

"You want to talk," he says, "and we'll talk with you."
