When Hot Club of Cowtown played WestFest in downtown Colorado Springs two summers ago, the crowd liked them so much they wouldn't let them stop playing. The acoustic trio -- guitar, fiddle and stand-up bass -- left the stage then set up in the lobby of the Alamo Building where hand-clapping, foot-stomping fans urged them on for another hour. The sound and rhythm of Hot Club's unique style of Western swing, played at breakneck speed, are downright infectious. Fiddler Elana Fremerman defines the band's sophistication and eclecticism with her background in both country and classical music. The name alludes doubly to Django Reinhardt's Hot Club in France and Austin, Texas, the band's home base. With a Bob Wills beat and double-timed licks, the trio make a big, complex sound. Check out their latest album, Ghost Train, if you don't believe it, or better yet, sashay over to the Pikes Peak Center on Saturday and get your ears full.
