All-star husband-and-wife folk duo Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen will be stopping off at the Black Rose Acoustic Society for a performance on Friday night. Gillette's songs have been performed and recorded by the likes of Waylon Jennings, Gordon Lightfoot, Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt, Jerry Jeff Walker and Tammy Wynette. Gillette is also the author of Songwriting and the Creative Process (Sing Out Press), which has become a classic in songwriting instruction. Using a combination of flatpicking and two-finger picking, Gillette has gained renown for his musicianship and is often compared to Doc Watson. Cindy Mangsen focuses primarily on the preservation of traditional ballads and also plays banjo and concertina. As a duo they've been featured on NPR's All Things Considered and have recorded three duet albums together. On Saturday morning, Mangsen and Gillette will also be teaching a songwriter's workshop at Meeker Music, 113 E. Bijou. Go to
