Jack Quinn Irish Ale House & Pub, 21 S. Tejon St.
Every Saturday, 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The Irish are not generally known for their reticence. At Jack Quinn's, a downtown Irish pub, you'll find folks throwing their arms around each other, regardless of color and heritage, and singing about bonny lasses and whiskey. One of the most popular groups to play Quinn's is Big Paddy, a duo featuring Sean Gaughan (vocals, percussion) and Jon Sherman (mandolin, tenor banjo, guitar and bodhran). Their shows are energetic and fun, providing pub songs, instrumental jigs, rock, and whatever the Irish version of a slow jam would be. Multi-instrumentalist Sherman has been performing Irish music for 18 years, touring the country with the likes of Mike Maloney, Robbie O'Connell and Eileen Ivers. Denver-native Gaughan began his musical training at age 8, and has been a drummer for 23 years. It was his love affair with Irish music that prompted Gaughan to begin singing. The man is all-out charismatic with a perhaps-affected Irish snarl as he gets the crowd involved in sing-alongs. Whet your appetite for great music and fine potato products as Big Paddy plays Jack Quinn's every Saturday night.
