Gary Allan, Dierks Bentley and Cross Canadian Ragweed
lPikes Peak Center
Friday, Dec. 3, 7 p.m.
Think country music is all boots, mechanical bulls and missin' your woman? It's time to adjust that line of thinking. Dierks Bentley is a country singer and guitarist, a young man whose country-hunk good looks hearken back on a simpler time, when the lushly bemulleted Billy Ray Cyrus ruled the airwaves with his achy-breaky heart. The difference is that Bentley has honest-to-God talent. The Phoenix native began playing guitar at 13, eventually moving to Nashville at 19 to pursue a career in music. Bentley earned his way by playing in Nashville bars and clubs, learning the city's rich history and connecting with the local bluegrass and country communities. He lived and breathed country music, going so far as to work at The Nashville Network (TNN), digging through the archives for ancient footage of his idols. His self-titled debut CD features a heavy backbone of traditional country style, but with a decidedly modern twist. Catch this Top New Artist (Billboard magazine, 2003) Friday at the Pikes Peak Center with Gary Allan and Cross Canadian Ragweed.
