Call it rising above, finding the silver lining, or making lemonade out of lemons. The members of the Chicago-based band Chin Up Chin Up were busy writing their first album when their bassist was killed in a hit-and-run accident. Choosing to persevere, amid the mourning, they created the lovely We Never Should Have Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers. The result is lush and oddly calming, even though Chin Up's songs have titles like "Why Is My Sleeping Bag a Ghetto Muppet?" Never mind that, the album is an amalgamation of hushed mumblings and small doses of techno blips and burbles, before it launches into full post-punk rock. Songs like "Virginia, Don't Drown" will delight the shoegazer within with its My Bloody Valentine tendencies. The quartet will appear Monday, Dec. 13, at the Navajo Hogan with headliner Make Believe, nee Joan of Arc. Also featured are local heartthrobs Eyes Caught Fire and Fag Team.
