The Zen Tricksters
Annex Ballroom, 509 Main St., Cañon City
Saturday, Feb. 5, 9 p.m.
$10 Call 719/276-3088

Sometimes being the best means trouble. For the Zen Tricksters, it means ex-Grateful Dead guru Phil Lesh wooing two of your band members away to join his acclaimed Phil Lesh and Friends collective. After winning an award during Relix magazine's Jam Off, the Tricksters were acknowledged for what they were: incredible musicians who can rock your socks off. The New York-based quartet is led by Jeff Mattson (lead guitar, vocals) and includes Klyph Black (bass, vocals), Tom Circosta (rhythm guitar, vocals) and Joe Ciarvella (drums). Live, the Tricksters play a hearty mix of original pieces and covers, ranging from hillbilly nonsense and bluegrass to Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan. Their shows are known for inciting wild packs of show goers to get up and dance like funky monkeys. Scratch your feral urge for great jamming when the Zen Tricksters play on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Annex Ballroom in Cañon City.
