Stand Up or Shut Up Comedy Open Mic

So, this guy walks into a bar and starts heckling the onstage comic. Suddenly, he's on stage with a microphone in his hand. Where is he? At the Ancient Mariner's "Stand Up or Shut Up Open Mic," where if you heckle, you're up next. Fortunately for the comics who perform at this venue, people respect the rules and the comedians. "It's laid back, just like Manitou," says Kevin Shroeder, MC of the monthly session. "A lot of comedy open mics are really strict and can be tough for beginners. This one is more relaxed." The sessions aren't only for beginners, though. A session might include a 17-year-old class clown (people under 21 should be escorted by an adult) and a professional comedian practicing new material. It's almost always funny though, says Shroeder, because of where we live. "With the people and politics here in Colorado Springs, there's a lot of material for comedy."
