Alot of people think Kaati's (pictured far right) stunningly tender, coming-of-age song "Rembrandt" is about sex. It is about a seduction of sorts, about departing from her childhood (read: parents') views to find her own beliefs, about being receptive to experience. Seduction is part of Kaati's package, and her presence is unabashedly female. She describes a yearning admiration for Billie Holiday's exposed, raw performances and jokes that she should put up a sign, "Naked Songs By Kaati," at her own shows. She's most real, the most herself, when she's behind the microphone, singing her own lyrics with a strong, sensual, bluesy and breathy voice, backed by a guitar and an occasional violin. The uninhibited local gal is getting popular, too, with three performances scheduled over the next two weeks. If you go, though, remember: Sexy music isn't always about sex.
