Acacia Park, 115 E. Platte Ave. Friday, Aug. 11, 6 p.m. free.

Stephanie Pauline is a natural. She plays the guitar and the piano, and sings "not all at the same time, of course," she jokes. She also writes the melodies and lyrics to all her music.

And when she's asked how she got started, she says, "I've done it for as long as I can remember; it just came to me, like breathing and laughing."

Pauline, who is from Minneapolis, has performed more than 80 concerts this year around the United States. She calls her sound "foaltro" short for folk-alternative-rock.

"My music is versatile and reflective and relates to a lot of different kinds of people," she says.

Pauline describes her newest album, Rush the Sea, as "a journey," reflecting its swings between intensity and light coolness.

"Difficulties, experiences and divine moments when I sense something bigger than myself, all inspire me," she says.

But her focus isn't just inward. Pauline donates 50 percent of the profits from her records to nonprofit organizations aiding the less fortunate. And she thrives on moving her audiences with her music.

"I want to reach people," she says. "I like it when people walk away from a concert and feel like something clicked with them."
