No one knows yet what the final damage to New Orleans' vibrant music scene will be, but the Front Range scene is coming together to raise money for victims of last week's Hurricane Katrina.

Benefit shows last weekend included the Tempa and the Tantrums Benefit at Bourbon Street in Greenwood Village. An underground show at the runsfasterscared house in Pueblo, featuring The Index Of..., A Novel Form and Critical Mass: The Ultimate Weapon, raised about $150, proving that underneath the hardcore uniform of girlpants and fancy hair lurks a generous spirit.

Locally, The Leechpit is taking up a collection for Claudia Lewis, an ex-manager of Independent Records who lost her home in New Orleans and is six months pregnant.

Blues musicians from the legendary music scene in New Orleans are among those most affected by the disaster, and on Sept. 11, the Pikes Peak Blues Community is honoring them with a benefit show in Acacia Park, which will include myriad artists and representatives of the Red Cross. Also on the 11th, the community of Guffey (in South Park County) is hosting a pig roast and music benefit at Rita's Place.

Last week, Clear Channel giant KVUU (99.9 FM) made a pledge to raise $99,999, with DJ Craig Coffey living on the balcony at Rum Bay until the goal is met. And the Dave Matthews Band partnered with Denver mayor John Hickenlooper to set up a Sept. 12 benefit show at Red Rocks, with all funds going to disaster relief.

Check it, Springs style: Fina Dupa CD Release Party, Ritz Grill (15 S. Tejon St.), Sept. 9-10; Harrison Bergeron and the Great Redneck Hope, Darkside (2106 E. Platte Ave.), Sept. 9; ANOTHER with Life of Agony, Darkside, Sept. 13.
