Open for just a short time, Sexey's experienced several problems, including liens against the building and, according to Everett, something about building owner Landon Parker not being incorporated. Because of the oversights, the liquor license was pulled.
Everett says he's working to paying off the liens, in an effort to keep the dream of Sexey's alive. "I'll lien 'til the cows come home."
Moo, Everett, moo.
Is your new band in need of some exposure? If you can't find a decent place to play, are sick of paying the venue in order to play, or simply are trying to find an "in" with the scene, there's good news. The Black Sheep (2106 E. Platte Ave., 227-7625) is accepting demos for its new Sunday Amateur Night. Basically, all you have to do is drop off your CD (with your contact info), either during a show or in the mailbox.
Fans of Soda Jerk Presents shows, take note: The company has ended its relationship with Denver's Rock Island venue. After two years, Soda Jerk is moving the music to the Marquis Theatre (2009 Larimer St., Denver, 303/443-2227). All shows scheduled for Rock Island through the end of January have been cancelled, and all shows that were scheduled after Feb. 1 will happen at the Marquis. According to a Soda Jerk e-mail, the move is "due to an array of issues," but the company is quick to assure fans that the new venue will be a crowd-pleaser, fo' sho'.
