Local girl-made-good alert: Katie Eastburn, ex-Springs denizen and current member of indie band Young People, is proving to be a woman of many medias. On March 21, Young People are due to release their third album, All at Once (Too Pure), which is sure to tickle the eardrums of experimental, kettle-clanging music lovers everywhere. Eastburn (who, in the interest of full disclosure, is the daughter of Indy contributing editor Kathryn Eastburn) also has just released a DVD of short performances called Starter Set: New Dance and Music for the Camera (Kill Rock Stars), showcasing dancers from various fringe groups. Eastburn recently was featured in the February issue of Elle magazine. Check it out and support our homegirl.

But if freestyle inspires you, Boulder Street Coffee Roasters (332 N. Tejon St.) is giving you a chance to tap your inner b-boy/girl with its weekly Mixed Blend. It's not a delicious beverage, but an open turntable and mic night, every Friday from 6 to 10. Get there early to sign your bad self up.
Musicians ages 5 to 18 are invited to compete in the Pikes Peak Young Composers Competition. Original pieces in solo composition, chamber, orchestral, string quartet or jazz may be submitted for review and possible concert performance before April 1. Visit pikespeakyoungcomposers.org for more info.
The Colorado Springs Children's Chorale is collaborating on a concert and silent auction to benefit The Family Attachment Center of Colorado Springs, a non-profit counseling center that helps families with children 17 or under create safe and happy households. "For the Love of Children" takes place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12 at First Congregational Church (20 E. St. Vrain St.). Tickets are $12, and more information is available at 632-3204.
