Romeo and Juliet

When: Sat., Oct. 19, 8 p.m. and Sun., Oct. 20, 2:30 p.m. 2013

The same day Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev died, the USSR announced that Joseph Stalin was also dead. In the next issue of a leading Soviet music periodical, the first 115 pages were devoted to Stalin, while Prokofiev, of Peter and the Wolf and War and Peace fame, was relegated to page 116. Today though, Prokofiev's genius lives on, and he's one of the two composers to whom the Colorado Springs Philharmonic is devoting this weekend's Romeo and Juliet. Today's concert starts at 2:30 (last night's at 8) at the Pikes Peak Center (190 S. Cascade Ave.,, tickets start at $19) and features special guest pianist Martina Filjak and Philharm music director Josep Caballé-Domenech. — Edie Adelstein
