Colorado Springs may not be known for visual art anymore — it really was in the '20s and '30s — but we've still got plenty of committed and active artists and art-lovers. They often come together at monthly opening parties for local galleries and museums.

The First Friday ArtWalk sweeps Old Colorado City and downtown and runs April through December with openings, artist demonstrations and schmooze opportunities around the 5 to 8 p.m. range. (Call Hunter-Wolff Gallery for info at 520-9494, or visit hunterwolffgallery.com).

Manitou Springs hosts First Saturday walks through town, lasting from the early afternoon through evening. And up north, Monument's Third Thursday Art Hop runs May through September, with varying times (check secondstreetart.com for information).

Another way to see be social while checking out a lot of work is to tour the Art on the Streets display — which rotates in June — spread throughout downtown, along with the many other public works in the area (downtown80903.com).
