Sentwali Bakari, dean of students at Drake University in Des Moines since 2003, has been named vice chancellor for student success at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Bakari will be in charge of admissions, records, and student life and leadership. He will oversee the dean of students offices.

"Dr. Bakari brings almost 30 years of experiences at both public and private universities to UCCS," Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak stated in a release. "I am pleased to welcome him to the UCCS Mountain Lion family and look forward to introducing him to both the campus and Colorado Springs communities."

Bakari holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and a Ph.D. from the University of Northern Colorado. Bakari, who has lived and worked internationally, earned a prestigious Fulbright Award to the United Kingdom.

Bakari replaces Homer Wesley, who left UCCS in February to take a position at Pikes Peak Community College.
