The Pikes Peak Gay and Lesbian Community Center will be celebrating the 14th annual Colorado Springs PrideFest, Embracing Diversity, Equality -- Our Humanity, this weekend. Join them for a variety of activities that will culminate with all-day entertainment in Acacia Park on Sunday, July 18.
The festivities begin at noon on Friday with a peaceful demonstration at the El Paso County Clerk & Recorder office in support of equal civil rights for same-sex couples. Couples can register for marriage licenses and then hit some kickoff parties later that night at Bijou Bar & Grill and Club Q on North Academy.
Cure the potential hangover Saturday with an ice-cream brain freeze (hey, it worked for a buddy once) at a free community wide ice-cream social in The Pride Center on N. Tejon between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Then rush your sticky fingers over to hear Troy Perry, founder of the Metropolitan Community Churches, and Councilman Richard Skorman speak at Pikes Peak MCC's 25th Anniversary and Community Pride Celebration. Continue on to the Mr., Ms., Miss Gay Pride Pageant and Pre-Pride Party at 10:30 p.m. at the Hide 'N Seek's Branding Iron on West Colorado Avenue.
Score some free breakfast at 8 a.m. Sunday back at the Hide 'N Seek and then head to Acacia for a full day of fun. Line up on the Cache La Poudre and Tejon Street intersection just before noon and march until 1 p.m. in the PrideFest parade to show your support for the LGBT community. Then return to the park and relax with a beer garden, kids' fun zone, and live entertainment until 6 p.m. (Don't forget to call Mayor Rivera's office to tell him what a good time you had.)
