In 1994, Susan Smith watched her two children drown after locking them in her car and sending the car into a lake. This is a modern example of the "Medea complex," wherein parents want to murder their children to get back at their spouse. On that chipper note: Guest conductor Michael Stern leads the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and guest pianist Alon Goldstein as they perform the music from Barber's Medea, the Greek figure for which this complex is named, along with tunes by Shostakovich and Schumann at 2:30 today (following yesterday's 8 p.m. show) at the Pikes Peak Center (190 S. Cascade Ave., csphilharmonic.org). Tickets run $19 to $59. — Kiki Lenihan
