Another slice

A new Borriello Brothers pizza will open sometime this summer, along with other new businesses, at 221 S. Eighth St. According to Robert Aertker of Southwestern Commercial Properties, the building previously known as Rita's Fajitas is undergoing a 9,000-square-foot addition, as well as construction that will link the back parking lot with another entrance on Seventh Street.
7-Eleven's moving into the complex, and another half dozen retail storefronts are still available. Call 884-0209 for more.

Blue Star goes green

After releasing a new dining-room menu, The Blue Star (1645 S. Tejon St.) has announced several steps it's taken lately to help the planet, including composting, recycling and a move to energy-efficient lighting. Also, the upscale menu now includes organic wines produced by alternative energies (beers to follow soon) and offers several food choices that incorporate local, organic products. Call 632-1086 for more.

Bean, meet grape

The Coffee Exchange (526 S. Tejon St.) will begin hosting monthly wine tastings with local fermented-grape educator Experience Wine, which aims to make wine fun and accessible to people. The first event, "Intro to the World of Wine," features four international samples from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28. Entry is $20 in advance, and you can register via experiencewine.net or 282-8688. It'll cost $25 at the door. Future events will teach about different wine varietals, growing regions and more.
