The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms still has to approve the label (really!), but beerocrat Laura Long reports that Bristol Brewing Co. aims to unveil its Compass IPA come mid-November. (The compass rose on the label should help provide a clean break from the beer's history as Edge City IPA.) Look for Compass on tap and in growlers and kegs at the brewery, on draft and in bottles around town, and in 12-ounce six-packs in liquor stores.
The Warehouse Restaurant and Gallery (25 W. Cimarron St.) is offering new happy hour deals from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday: $2 drafts and half-off martinis and bar appetizers. Saturday nights also offer half-off wine bottles. Call 475-8880.
Open just a week, Smiley's (323 N. Tejon St.) has already taken on a cozy atmosphere, with '50s decor, comfy wooden furniture and most importantly the scent of warm bread.
Amy Graham, proprietor of the now-closed Amy's Bakery and Cafe in Old Colorado City, and her daughter make breads and pastries from scratch, plus soups, sandwiches, salads and other "comfort food." Among the highlights: tomato-spinach-mushroom lasagna and buffalo meatloaf.
Smiley's is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The Corner Cafe (7 E. Vermijo Ave.), aiming to recapture its loyal Apex Sports clientele (lost a couple months back when the city shut down owner Bob Smoot's mobile operation), will now be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays. One weekly special will be the Hot Garbage Burrito (yes, you read that correctly), featuring fire-roasted Hatch green chiles along with potatoes, scrambled egg, cheese and bacon. Visit cornercafecs.com for more. Compiled by Matthew Schniper, Elizabeth Anderson and Kirk Woundy.
