Opened up

Rio Bistro (126 S. Union Ave., Pueblo) owner Elisabeth Millenet and chef Ben Bedard have partnered on a new venture. After a soft opening Oct. 6, Victoria's Gourmet Market, Delicatessen and Catering, at 218 Victoria Ave., will serve breakfast and lunch from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday. (Bedard says Rio Bistro will now only serve dinner.) The market will offer from-scratch breads, sweets and bagel sandwiches, and products like honey, jams and Solar Roast Coffee, German specialty meats, and more. Call 719/546-2354.

Wings-Pizza-N-Things, not to be confused with Wild Wings 'n Things, recently opened its first store at 9205 N. Union Blvd. (Which just goes to prove consumers totally dig "things.") Owners Rebecca and Dan Ala, each with larger-food-corporation business experience, hope to expand the casual sports-grill operation quickly, perhaps by one location per year, says Rebecca. Beyond the obvious food offerings, "things" will include an 8- to 10-ounce "jumbo wing," burgers, homemade pies and specials like pulled pork sliders during Monday NIght Football. Call 375-1715 for happy hour info and more, or visit wingspizzanthings.com.

Garlic Jim's Famous Gourmet Pizza celebrated its grand opening Sept. 29 at 3735 Bloomington St. The "gourmet" part of Jim's name speaks to unconventional toppings like cashews, coconut and almond slivers, among other menu items. Great news for celiacs: the franchise thoughtfully offers gluten-free pizza as well. Visit garlicjims.com for more.

Barbecue birthday

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue (5850 Barnes Road) will celebrate its one-year anniversary from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11. The franchise offers dishes like Hawaiian barbecued beef, chicken and short ribs, taro-leaf-wrapped Kalua pork and a variety of seafood. The first 50 people in the door at the party only pay $1 for a barbecue plate lunch. There'll be giveaways, Polynesian dance and music, plus a musubi making and eating contest. That, by the way, is Spam on top of rice, wrapped in seaweed. Visit hawaiianbarbecue.com for more.

Down and out (of business)

Par Avion Finer Foods Emporium, at 1872 Southgate Road, has closed.

Take note

Tickets to the Great American Beer Festival, Oct. 9-11 at Denver's Colorado Convention Center, are already sold out. Visit beertown.org for info on late giveaways.

Fifth annual Taste of Manitou, Oct. 10, 5:30 p.m., the Cliff House at Pikes Peak, 306 Cañon Ave., $80 a person, featuring six restaurants' courses; call 685-9741.
