Take two

Local publisher Motion Pixel Lab has released the second edition of its Beer Drinker's Guide to Colorado, the "ultimate map and travel guide" to breweries and brew pubs dotting the state. The $12.95, 27-by-40-inch, fold-out maps come with outdoor recreation information and roughly $30 in beer and food coupons to Front Range drink spots. The map's makers are donating 5 percent of all map sales through the end of 2008 to preserve parks and open space. Visit bdg2c.com for more.

Being a member of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center offers a new perk: Caf 36, inside the museum (30 W. Dale St.), is now offering two-for-one entres (items ranging $11 to $23) to all members at both lunch and dinner. Call 477-4377 for reservations.

Breakfast at La'au's

La'au's Taco Shop (830 N. Tejon St., #110) introduced an assortment of breakfast tacos last month. For $1.75, you can build your own (with ingredients including egg, potato, chorizo, steak, pork, chicken and veggies) and dress it in your choice of four salsas. (Mango, anyone?) In addition, $6 breakfast bowls are available, consisting of your choice of protein with fixins over rice. Currently, La'au's is only offering the breakfast items on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 to 11 a.m., though expanded hours may follow depending on demand. Call 578-5228 for more.

Out of Town

Town Center Restaurant (221 E. Kiowa St.), owned by longtime local radio personality Chuck Baker, has closed. Baker says the simplest explanation is that the eatery, which opened roughly a year ago on the west side of City Auditorium, couldn't continue to be viable after plans for two high-rise buildings nearby were shelved.
