Side dish: Amuzé moves out 

Amuzé splits from FAC

Chef Bill Sherman closed Amuzé at the FAC earlier this week, saying only that "it was in our best business interest to leave."

Sherman originally opened Amuzé Bistro in Palmer Lake, to much acclaim, in early 2009. In mid-2010, he approached the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center about taking over the café that Garden of the Gods Gourmet was vacating.

The chef isn't prepared to say what he's doing next, only that he's "looking at new endeavors." The Flying Pig, an eatery envisioned for the former Amuzé Bistro space at 292 S. State Hwy. 105, remains stalled; it certainly will play into that decision process.

FAC president Sam Gappmayer says Picnic Basket (pbcatering.com) will fill in as the interim caterer "while we go through what we hope will be a robust process and again get somebody in that [will do] as much good for us as Bill did."

Picnic Basket formerly occupied the FAC café from mid-2004 to mid-2006, and has since contract caterered for the arts center.

Pad Thai plus

Indonesia native and chef Gary Sanova opened Thai Satay (540-8288) on Nov. 4 in the former Shanghai 2 location at 821 Cheyenne Meadows Road. Sanova will serve a Thai-heavy menu, but also include both Malaysian and Indonesian food. Newbies to those latter cuisines, he notes, can expect spicy dishes like Malaysian sambal shrimp made from fresh chilies, as well as more mild plates like Indonesia's national dish, nasi goreng, a fried rice with shrimp and airy prawn crackers called krupuk.

Pumpkin provisions

Past the brewery sellout and reported liquor-store price gouging, Bristol Brewing Co.'s Venetucci Pumpkin Ale continues to generate hype, now with "secret stash[es]" of 48 bombers driving restaurant events.

First, the West Lobby Bar at The Broadmoor (1 Lake Ave., broadmoor.com) will host a $35 tasting from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, featuring a bottle per guest plus unlimited small plates prepared in part with ingredients sourced from Venetucci Farm. (As of this writing, more than 30 spots remained.)

Next, Rasta Pasta (405 N. Tejon St., rastapastacs.com) will bust open its stash between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21, with one bottle per customer, first-come-first-serve, selling for $7. It will be paired with a pasta plate ranging from around $5 to $15.

À la carte

• Congrats to The Broadmoor, which earned its trio of five-star ratings from Forbes Travel Guide. It's a record 52nd consecutive year for the hotel, and the third consecutive year for the spa and Penrose Room.

Burgers and Bowls closed its doors for good last week at 111 E. Boulder St.
