Moore leaves Broadmoor
Just a few months after chef Derin Moore replaced Siegfried Eisenberger to become the fifth executive chef ever at The Broadmoor (1 Lake Ave., broadmoor.com), the hotel is announcing his departure. Food & Beverage marketing and PR manager Lindsey Hafemeister cites philosophical differences.
David Codney, who Moore brought with him from the flagship Ritz-Carlton Naples in Naples, Fla., has been named senior executive sous chef while a search for a new executive chef commences. Bertrand Bouquin will keep the title of executive sous chef of restaurants for now, having been promoted by Moore from executive chef of the Penrose Room and Summit.
In other Broadmoor news: By next spring, the Golden Bee will get a rooftop patio and double its interior space with custom, replicated woodwork to fit the existing decor; the Tavern's rear "garden room" will get a new European-style glass atrium and more colorful plants; and Play at The Broadmoor, "a new bowling alley, gaming parlor, lounge and restaurant," will open in Broadmoor West. By spring 2014, Charles Court will be entirely overhauled and turned into an Italian eatery, to be designed by the renowned Adam Tihany, who outfitted the Summit.
According to Tyler Clayton from the Colorado Mountain Brewery (cmbrew.com) at 1110 Interquest Pkwy., the new CMB in the Roundhouse at 600 S. 21st St. should be open by this Saturday, Sept. 1; a soft opening could happen Friday.
Clayton says the new CMB will offer a menu similar to the original, with popular plates like the venison egg rolls sticking around, but a few higher-priced, more gourmet plates will be added. The space will also house around 30 other Colorado beer taps and feature a small lager brewing operation (versus the ale brewing at the north store).
Scott Koons, head of CMB's investment group, originally told the Indy back in September 2011 that he hoped to be open by late spring or early summer and working on a third location by fall of 2012, with a larger goal to franchise CMB and become "the biggest brewpub in the country."
You could argue that The Mobile Market (635-0769) is both the newest and oldest food cart in the city. That's because its commissary is the 110-year old Little Market & Deli at 749 E. Willamette Ave.
Either way, the Little Market's Kim Garcia, or one of her daughters, now sets up outside of the Leechpit (802 N. Nevada Ave.) from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays through Saturdays (minus Labor Day weekend). And the cart is essentially an extension of the market, dishing $5 deli sandwiches, Polish sausages and runzas (beef and cabbage-stuffed dough balls); $2 cupcakes and lollicakes (a cupcake truffle on a stick); and $1 homemade vanilla ice cream scoops on sugar cones.
