Indy: From the beginning on American Idol, you were different. Not only were you a white guy who looked more like one of my dad's golf buddies, but you actually did the impossible by getting the sinister Simon Cowell to admit he was wrong.
TH: Yeah, I definitely was an underdog and still am, to a certain degree. It's always good to feel that way. You have to feel like that, carry that around with you. It makes you work harder.
Indy: So Kelly was the strong female singer, Ruben was the R&B guy, Fantasia was the soulstress and Carrie was the country gal. Where do you fit in?
TH: My music leans towards the Dave Matthews Band jam-band type of format, so there's more jamming.
Indy: What's the one guilty pleasure that can currently be found on your iPod?
TH: I'd have to say The Bee Gees.
Indy: And what if somebody has Taylor Hicks on their iPod as, say, a guilty pleasure?
TH: (Laughs.) That's perfectly fine!
At Denver's Paramount Theatre, April 29.
I miss you, Lenny! My family and I thank you for all the special times…
