Soul music has had an immeasurable influence on popular music since it first burst onto the scene about 50 years ago. But in its original form, is soul just a part of the past?

What comes to mind when you think of soul music? Primarily, I think about the late '60s and early '70s.

Do you think the genre has a place in popular music today? Yes, I think so; maybe not as pure as it was then, but combined with other styles of music.

Name a singer whose voice really impresses you. The lead singer of Blutengel.

What's the most powerful live music performance you've ever seen? Mayhem, a band from Europe. I received some good injuries in the mosh pit.

Who's making music today that we'll still be listening to in 50 years? Probably various forms of electronic music. Everything is going in that direction.

What comes to mind when you think of soul music? I think of jazz, and maybe Southern music.

Do you think soul has a place in popular music today? Yes, but it's overwhelmed by everything else.

Name a singer whose voice gives you chills. Adam Lambert. He has a really powerful voice.

Can you describe the best live music performance you've ever seen? It would have to be Adam Lambert. I went to see him when he was in Denver, and it was amazing.

What type of music do you think we'll still be listening to in 50 years? Probably pop music; it's the best, and it's everywhere.

What comes to mind when you think of soul music? There's different variations, but I think of the '60s and '70s, when Motown was really big.

Who was your favorite soul artist? Marvin Gaye, or funky soul like Parliament.

Does soul music have a place in popular music today? Definitely. It has a big influence on today's music, and a lot of artists are sampling it.

Name a singer whose voice really gets to you. Several artists come to mind, but Jimi Hendrix really stands out.

What's the most powerful live music performance you've ever seen? Tool. They put on a show like no other. I've seen them about seven times.
