How important is a vibrant local music scene? Extremely important. I moved here from San Antonio and they have everything — all kinds, and lots of live music. It's really important for the younger singles social scene.

What's the most important ingredient to creating it? Venues and advertising. There should be a Facebook page for the Colorado Springs music scene. Live music could be everywhere.

When's the last time you saw live, local music? Every Wednesday I like to go to Jives [Coffee House] for open mic. But I also go to Denver every couple of weeks.

What's a local artist or band that should be bigger? Alcaeus and Bad Maps. There are definitely people who follow them.

Can you think of a style of music that's misunderstood or underrated? Heavy metal for one; sometimes the lyrics are really good. And jazz and the blues aren't as popular here as they should be, including hip-hop jazz.

How important is a vibrant local music scene? It's very important. Especially if a restaurant has music, I'll go there, like at the Sunbird.

What would help our local music scene? Bigger-name acts, like Denver offers.

When's the last time you saw live, local music? A couple of weeks ago, at the Broadmoor. It was big band dance music.

Can you think of a city that's known for its music scene? Nashville and Memphis come to mind.

What's your favorite style of music? My favorite is jazz, but I like bluegrass, too.

Have you ever played in a band? I played harmonica with a band in Switzerland.

How important is a vibrant local music scene? I think it's very important. Kids listen to so much music, instead of learning to make their own.

What would help make the live music scene in town more vital? More venues, like coffee houses, restaurants and bars, and more publicity about it.

When was the last time you saw live, local music? Last Wednesday night at Agia Sophia. I went to see a Celtic band that was really good.

What's a local artist or band that should be bigger? Phil Volan and Joe Uveges. Both of them are songwriters, too.

Can you think of a style of music that's misunderstood or underrated? Christian music, like Judah & the Lion. They're really good musicians. And I like hipster Bluegrass, too.
