We're located in a medical building, not just a retail store," says dispensary owner Tyla Reimers. "It seems to be what sets us apart for our patients." Canna offers all the amenities of a full-service dispensary, including a wide array of edibles, and the "doc" is in four or five times a month for medical marijuana recommendations.

"All the rest are named by someone who doesn't know what they're doing." Billed as "a full wellness center," CMWC offers all the usual tinctures, rubs and edibles, though the food part is where it gets interesting. Brauner's wife is a graduate of the chef's school at the Sorbonne in Paris, and has created over 40 pre-packaged meals.

Strains: 60

Employee Jay Sanner says Cannabis Therapeutics is the oldest dispensary in the state of Colorado. It boasts its own lab for THC-sample testing — in-house or patient-provided — and offers more products than there are letters in the word "tetrahydrocannabinol." Consider: varieties of clones and mother plants; medicated bubble bath, shower scrubs and hand soaps; tinctures and glycerins; THC sprays and drops; roll-ons, rubs and salves; and candies, bubble gum and suckers. For other forms of intake, look for papers, blunts, wraps, rolls, cones, one-hitters, dugouts, water pipes, bongs, double bubblers and vaporizers all sent out the door in non-odorous, waterproof bags.

"When people see our selection, they'll find out we're one of the better [dispensaries] in town," Mitton says. Though walk-ins are technically welcome, a phone call 15 minutes prior to arrival is appreciated.

Academy (North): 1905 N. Academy Blvd., 574-4455

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Delivery: To patients

Strains: 10 to 30

Though a Colorado Cannabis Center rep would only confirm contact information — choosing not to disclose further details over the phone — and wasn't sure how many strains were in-house, The rep did say that the center is "more patient-friendly" than other dispensaries. So there you have it.

Colorado GrowHouse

Strains like Northern Lights, White Widow, AK-47 and Master Kush are expected, as well as edibles (chocolate and brownies) and hash pills. "Discreet and sophisticated' is our motto," Maureen says. "We're in it for the long haul," says Soul, who hopes to be open for walk-in patients sometime in the near future.

Look for staple strains such as AK-47, Grand Daddy Purple, Sour Diesel and Island Sweet Skunk, as well as varied edibles, tinctures, bath teas and lotions. If imbibing isn't your thing, an on-site massage therapist, and an acupuncturist, can take care of that side.

Membership is requested, but not required, to obtain medication; call before visiting.

DANK Industries

244-0833, freedank.com

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Delivery: Yes

Strains: 10 to 15

DANK does things a little differently. First, it's delivery-only, though a storefront in June or July is a goal. Second, instead of growing medication and selling it by the ounce, it contracts out and offers professional gardening, charging the patient the time and materials needed to grow a plant, as opposed to charging for the final product. This is said to lead to prices of $280 per ounce. The first six clones are free, and once the first crop comes through (in roughly four months' time), seven grams per month are provided free as well.

Eagle's Nest Sanctuary

Woodland Park: 12850 Rampart Range Road, 719/687-2928, eaglesnestsanctuary.com

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Delivery: No

Strains: 20

Described on its website as "a holistic healing and compassionate care center," Eagle's Nest is technically a church, teaching Ho'ala Huna: a set of perspectives that "have the power to heal lives, mend relationships and set souls free." Counseling is available under said philosophy, while a dispensary within the healing center offers clones, lozenges, vaporizers, smoking accessories and water treatment systems. Fridays bring a buy-one-get-one-half-off deal; Saturdays, morning meetings on growing, cloning and spiritual healing. New members get a free eighth of an ounce and 20 percent off all products.

An oxygen bar installed in mid-April offers relief from insomnia, pain and ADHD, among other ailments, while a house-made line of edibles — infused lemonade, yummy gummies and "cannagliss" (tincture-filled straws), as well as traditional methods — takes care of the rest. ECW also serves as an information base for the MMJ-advocacy organization Americans for Safe Access.

Hours: N/A

Strains: N/A

Other than the experience of feeding five children, owner Gracy Midencey has no prior baking record. But when she saw a problem, she knew she had to act. "It was the cost of the edibles, and meeting so many people that needed the edibles instead of the smoke, and they just couldn't afford it," Midencey says. Thus was born brand-new, delivery-only bakery Happy Farms, and its medicated treats like scones, brownies and banana bread, as well as infused oils and butters for cooking at home. Midencey says that she uses donated marijuana for cooking, and if a patient is hard up for cash, she's happy to donate what she can.
