Who doesn't enjoy a little traditional Christmas music around the holidays? It's in the elevators, on the radio, over the speakers in the mall -- just about everywhere. Nice. But live Christmas music, served up by a classical guitar ensemble ... now that's good cheer and the holiday spirit. Enter the Colorado Springs Guitar Society (CSGS).
Here's a group of jolly folks ready to do its part this season. This band of classical guitar enthusiasts has been meeting a couple times a month for roughly the past 18 years -- you could guess that the CSGS members will probably be in tune. The CSGS organizes events around the community a few times a year to share their skills with thirsty ears and willing patrons.
"Our mission basically is to bring classical music as played on the guitar to the community," said Randy Reynolds, vice president of the Colorado Springs Guitar Society.
This year's Member's Benefit Concert at the All Souls Unitarian Church offers one chance to help the CSGS fulfill their goal. All they need is you -- the audience.
Along with Christmas favorites, the CSGS guitarists will offer selections from their repertoire, including classical pieces by Beethoven, Barrios, Tarrega, Ponce and others. All the talent is local and varied age groups, from pupils to mentors, will be represented by the performers.
Treat your ears right this holiday season while appreciating the finest in fingers-meeting-frets.
