The Indy's 2013 Fall Arts Preview

Welcome to the Indy's 2013 Fall Arts Preview, our annual autumnal cultural roundup. Here, we aim to tell you as much as we can about the best ways to spend your time as the days get shorter and the nights get longer.

For instance, we asked our theater critic to give his thoughts on the fall slate of plays coming to TheatreWorks, Springs Ensemble Theatre, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and the like. Elsewhere, we looked into the artistic mini-renaissance happening at the Mining Exchange hotel downtown, which you'll have to see to fully appreciate. There are other stories, too, including a fall cinema piece in our Film section.

We also humbly present the listings — what's on the calendar for the theater groups, museums, orchestras and schools. The array is fairly massive, but we know it's not comprehensive; let us know what we're missing by commenting on this story online or emailing edie@csindy.com.

But we wanted to lead this year by putting some art front and center. Here, we feature new, never-before-seen artwork from some of our most prolific locals. It's a more direct approach to the art, with no back-stories, no artist statements, just the who and the where. You can scan through the photos on the right, or click below for a slideshow of all these works, plus some extras passed along by the artists.

If you find a piece you love, make plans to check out the show where it'll appear; if no show is listed, just see the artist's website. Either way, think about showing these folks a little love, since they add local color that rivals the aspens.

Oh wait, you want more? Play our Fall Arts Trivia game for all kinds of great prizes, including tickets to the The Nutcracker, courtesy of The Colorado Springs Philharmonic, the Fine Arts Center, Theatreworks, GOCA, COPPeR and other arts organizations!
