The localarts scene 

Everyone knows Colorado Springs is about as good as it gets in terms of natural beauty and outdoors recreation, but its artistic reputation suffers. Are there opportunities to witness and interact with truly first-rate art, music, theater and cinema or literature?

Birgitta [De - Pree] and Jim [Jackson] from the Manitou Art Theater. - They're such talented, graceful and gracious people. -  - Rate the overall arts scene in Colorado Springs. - It's gotten better. If you look around, there are a lot - of neat things. -  - Name your last artistic endeavor. Directing an - abbreviated version of Romeo and Juliet at West - Middle School. The kids did a wonderful job.

    Rate the overall arts scene in Colorado Springs. It's gotten better. If you look around, there are a lot of neat things.

    Name the artist you'dbring to Colorado Springs if you could. Robert Mirabal, a native musician from Taos who does storytelling, dance theater and music.

    What artist-celeb would you most like to share a pitcher of beer with? I rarely drink beer, but Shane MacGowan of The Pogues would definitely be the one to do it with. He's pretty outrageous.

    Rate the Springs' arts scene. Fair, could be better. There's not as much support for the arts and diversity here as other places I've lived.

    What artist or event would you bring to town if you could? Some sort of outdoor street circus.

    What artist would you most like to drink a pitcher with? Leonard Nimoy. Besides acting, he's an OK photographer, and I liked the "In Search Of" [documentary] series he did.

    Rate the local arts scene. Pretty fair, but you have to go to the west side or Manitou to see the independent, creative stuff.
