After its tour's kickoff show in New York City in early February, most of matt pond PA's instruments and equipment were stolen.

The incident could have been a major blow for an indie band like this. But the members of matt pond PA quickly gathered new stuff and soldiered on without a pause.

"It's just a matter of putting yourself above it," says frontman Matt Pond.

Somehow, the resilience of matt pond PA seems in character especially for Pond himself. A native of rural New Hampshire, he formed matt pond PA in the late 1990s in Philadelphia (hence the "PA" part of the group's name). The band, with a revolving cast of musicians, steadily cranked out albums until 2003 but none of its first five full-length CDs or three EPs gained much notice.

When Pond moved to Brooklyn a couple years ago, the band lineup morphed into its current incarnation. And, clearly, it's the right combination.

Two years ago, the band landed a few tracks on "The OC." In November 2005, Several Arrows Later got the lead review (3.5 stars out of 5) in an issue of Rolling Stone.

"I don't dislike anyone I've ever played with at all," Pond says, "but I don't think anyone else so far has felt as much a part of it as the people who are doing this now."
